The 36th Global Conference of Alzheimer's Disease International usually attracts 1,200 onsite and online participants from over 120 countries will be taking place in Krakow, Poland from 24-26 April 2024. The conference bid was won by the Polskie Stowarzyszenie Pomocy Osobom z Chorobą Alzheimera (Polish Alzheimer’s Association), supported by Symposium Cracoviense.

Alzheimer's Disease International (ADI) is the international federation of Alzheimer and dementia associations around the world; in official relations with the World Health Organization (WHO). Its vision is risk reduction, timely diagnosis, care and inclusion today, and cure tomorrow. It supports and works with Alzheimer and dementia associations as well as people living with dementia, carers and all relevant organisations to help raise awareness, challenge stigma and call for dementia to be the global health priority it needs to be.

The federation was established in 1984 on the initiative of Alzheimer's associations in the USA, Great Britain, Australia and Canada. It has over 100 members, usually one in each country. In Poland, the member is the Polskie Stowarzyszenie Pomocy Osobom z Chorobą Alzheimera, based in Warsaw.

The President of the Polish Association, Zbigniew Tomczak, said: “I am proud that we can co-organize this prestigious conference for the first time in Poland. We strongly believe that this is a great opportunity to share knowledge and experience between people with dementia, decision makers and healthcare professionals and carers. I look forward to welcoming conference participants to Krakow in 2024.”

The ADI conference is proud to be the longest-running international conference on Alzheimer's disease and dementia. This unique, multi-disciplinary event brings together researchers, care and medical professionals, those living with dementia, family carers, scientists, staff and volunteers of Alzheimer and dementia associations.

Featuring a range of leading international speakers, and a high standard of diverse scientific and non-scientific content, the ADI 2024 conference programme, ‘Dementia: Insights. Innovations. Inspirations.’, will focus on the seven action areas of the World Health Organization (WHO)’s Global Action Plan on dementia, which centres around policy, awareness, prevention and diagnosis, research, care and treatment.

The conference is organized every second year. Each time the event leaves a positive impact and legacy in the destination where it is organized. Poland won the right to host this event for the second time. The bidding efforts were initiated by Symposium Cracoviense in 2018.

Anna Górska, Board Advisor at Symposium Cracoviense, said:

“We supported the Polish Association at every stage of applying for the event, from assistance in preparing the first application to organising the inspection visit. I am glad that our goal has been achieved and that this prestigious conference will be held in Poland. This is our joint success."

The Polish bid was also supported by the Polish Tourism Organisation and the Warsaw Convention Bureau in the form of supporting letters.

There was an inspection visit to Poland was held on March 13-15, 2023, attended by Paola Barbarino, ADI CEO and Jane Cziborra, Head of Events. The ladies checked the possibilities of facilities in Warsaw and Krakow. After the visit, a decision was made to organize the event in Krakow.
