Four categories are highlighted in the awards: Leadership, Innovation, Impact, and Most Improved Destination. Gdańsk, Poland, has been nominated for the Most Improved Destination Award, recognizing its remarkable progress in sustainable destination management. This award celebrates the destination that has achieved the most significant improvement in the GDS-Index score year-over-year.

Gdańsk's nomination underscores the city's growing commitment to sustainability, tourism excellence, and efforts to integrate green practices into its tourism and event management. Competing alongside Kumamoto (Japan), Solihull (UK), Takamatsu (Japan), and Tucson (USA), Gdańsk has solidified its place as a leader in sustainable tourism transformation.

Guy Bigwood, CEO of the GDS-Movement, emphasized that the finalists, including Gdańsk, "showcase the extraordinary power of regeneration through collective action," inspiring others to follow in their footsteps. Winners will be announced at the highly anticipated awards ceremony in Bruges.
